Universal Plugging Compound
Universal Plugging Compound is a convenient compound used for air blocking, air damming, and blocking moisture in PIC and pulp cables. It is a two-component, low exotherm, polyurethane compound designed for constructing air and moisture dams in both PIC and pulp/paper telecommunication cables. When mixed together, the two-components form a durable and flexible polyurethane elastomer that stands up even under the most extreme environmental conditions. Forms an effective block that will hold air pressure within 60 minutes after injection at 77°F (25°C). Universal Plugging Compound comes in regular and fast-setting grades. The regular grade has a gel time of 27 minutes. The fast-setting grade has an even faster gel time of 10 minutes, 20 seconds at room temperature. Each grade is available in either 6 or 20 oz barrier kits. Sleeve Kits, available in 12″ (79488) or 18″ (79499) lengths for making air pressure and/or moisture plugs in air core PIC and pulp/paper cables with single or double sheath construction. The ball valve located in the neck of the sleeve allows the plug to be capped and finished before the compound completely cures. The same kits may be used where internal or external bond or insulating joint is required. Kit includes either 12″ or 18″ sleeve, two strips of B-sealing tape, two strips of B-sealing cord, channeling pins, four vent plugs, bond bars, spacer foam (reticulating foam), and filling-valve cap. Injection Guns, available in 6 oz (79521) or 20 oz (79504), are hand-operated, ratchet-cam action guns with infinitely variable advance for maintaining constant pressure during plug construction. These are heavy-duty “standard” injection guns that are both rugged and durable and will stand up to the most severe handling and working conditions. The 6 oz (79521) gun is the same one used for Q-Pak Duck Sealing Foam. Adapter Hose (79485) is used to fill the Sleeve Kits (79488 or 79499) in any orientation where it is difficult to connect the Universal Plugging Compound directly to the sleeve. The hose is 15 inches long to allow clearance in tightly racked cables. It may be used with any barrier kit (6 or 20 oz) of all Universal Plugging Compound. Single use extension incorporates a second check valve to prevent loss of pressure and compound loss while changing barrier kits. Tested to withstand the pressure applied when building a block.
