The purpose of the cream-like substance when applied to surfaces during the carding process is to catch and contain particles that may otherwise become airborne. Besides forming a physical barrier surrounding the sheath, the cream-like substance also contains Steric acid and Stearate SP which act as wetting agents which emulsify particles thus preventing them from becoming airborne.
